WHAT'S INVOLVED IN A ROOF RESTORATION?
A Roof Restoration is a necessary investment every 10-15 years to ensure your roof remains in a watertight condition and protects the rest of your property.
The process is the same on cement or terracotta tiled roofs aside from the fact that we do not paint terracotta roofs. The reason we do not paint terracotta tiled roofs is because they are quite porous and the paint doesn’t soak in as well as it does on cement tiles.
We have listed a step-by-step guide on what is involved in a Roofing Restoration. This guide will help you understand the process so you can confidently contact a Roof Specialist and understand what is involved in the quote provided to you.
Stage 1 - Initial Inspection
You have noticed a few leaks coming into your home or maybe just some cracked cement work on the top of your roof – It is time to get your roof checked! A qualified member of our team will arrive and inspect your roof. We will prepare a detailed inspection and quote from our findings during the roof inspection. We will provide photos and go over this with you in a way that you can fully understand the terminology.
Stage 2 - Color Selection
Our customers are always provided with colour options early on in the restoration. This will give you time to make a selection and for us to order materials. We can help with ideas as to what colours would suit your home or we can leave it totally up to you! The colour does not need to be chosen yet as we can order and pick up the paint the day before we start the painting process.
Stage 3 - Caring As We Go
Our trained team know that the number one priority will always be to respect the customer and their property. This means that we will go to every precaution to protect all property that might be affected by roofing restorations. We promise to leave your home and surrounds as clean, if not cleaner than when we arrived.
Stage 4 - Guard Rail or Scaffold Installation
Once we have the go ahead it will be time to book in the guard rail. In most cases, the roof will need to be raised so that we can safely and legally start the roof restoration. We will usually get the rail booked in a couple of days before we start.
Stage 5 - Replacement Of Broken Tiles
Replacement of Broken Tiles Our first course of action once up on the roof is to remove and replace any broken tiles that would potentially leak during the high-pressure cleaning stage of the roofing restoration. An option for customers on more of a budget is that we can relocate chipped tiles to the gutter line. We can almost always match the tiles with the exact same replacements.
Stage 6 – High Pressure Cleaning
The cleaning stage is crucial to allowing the paint to bond to the tiles properly. We are able to complete the washing with our high-pressure cleaning machines, using tap water. We will carefully prepare your property and surrounded prior to the clean as this can cause some mess. Rest assured our team carries out a final rinse down after the work is complete and your property is left nice and tidy.
Stage 7 – Roof Repairs
The repairs will now begin! This will include items such as the renewal of old valley irons, the inspection and repair of all flashings, timer repairs, skylight repairs etc. This work will always be discussed in the inspection stage and quote so that the client knows exactly what work is being completed.
Stage 8 - Bedding & Flexible Pointing
This will almost always include the removal of the old mortar and cement work. Once complete and this has dried, we apply our flexible pointing to all ridge cappings and gable tiles.
Stage 9 – Final Wash Down
We must ensure that the roof surface is completely free of anything that would stop the paint from adhering to the tiles. We carry out a full blow down off the roof and if necessary, a secondary rinse down with our pressure washers.
Stage 10 – Painting Process
Now that the roof is ready to be painted, we will apply the chosen paint system. Generally, we will apply our four-coat system in your chosen colour.
Stage 11 – The Final Clean Up
The Final Clean Up Once the work on your roof has been finished, we complete a final inspection of the whole property and remove any rubbish and debris from the site. We leave the job knowing that the customer will be 100% satisfied!
