Roof Replacement Melbourne

Professional Roof Replacement for Your Melbourne Home

In some cases, a roof restoration may not be your best option. This is when our roof replacement services are required. Whether you are looking to replace your roof tiles or completely transform your house with a new Colorbond roof we have the solution for you!

A roof replacement involves removing your existing roof and installing a brand-new one.

This service is ideal when your roof is beyond repair or restoration. Replacing your roof not only improves the safety and structural integrity of your home, but also delivers a fresh, long-lasting finish that adds value and peace of mind

So When Does My Roof Need to Be Replaced?

Some roofs can be restored, but others have simply reached the end of their lifespan. Signs you may need a replacement include:

Frequent leaks or water damage inside the home

Broken or missing tiles across large sections

Rusting or corroded sheets on metal roofs

Sagging roof structure or damaged timbers

Rising repair costs that no longer make sense

What Are the Benefits of Replacing My Roof?

Replacing your roof is a big step, but the rewards make it worthwhile. Modern roofing materials, both tile and metal, offer impressive improvements in strength, performance, and efficiency compared to older systems. Here are some of the key benefits:

Improved Safety and Protection

A new roof is built to handle Melbourne’s storms, heavy rain, and summer heat, keeping your home and family secure.

Increased Property Value

Fresh roof boosts kerb appeal and makes your home more attractive to buyers.

Better Energy Efficiency

Modern Colorbond and tiled roofs are designed with insulation and underlays that help reduce energy costs.

Lower Maintenance Needs

New roofs, particularly metal, require far less upkeep compared to older, worn materials.

Choice of Style

Whether you prefer the sleek look of Colorbond or the classic appeal of tiles, both offer long-lasting warranties and design flexibility.

Long-Term Savings

By avoiding constant patch-ups, you’ll save money in the long run and enjoy peace of mind knowing your roof is built to last decades.

At Roof Guard Roofing, we combine premium materials with skilled workmanship to ensure every restoration delivers lasting results.

Types of Roofs We Replace

Colorbond Roof Replacement

Colorbond is one of Australia’s most trusted roofing options. It’s lightweight, durable, low-maintenance, and comes in various colours to match your home. A Colorbond replacement gives you long-term strength with modern style.

Tile Roof Replacement

Tiled roofs are classic and durable, but when they’re too damaged for repair, a replacement is the best choice. We bring in quality tiles and take the time to lay them properly, so your new roof not only protects your home but also suits the style of your home.

Metal

The replacement of old tile roofs with metal roofs is becoming more and more popular, and for good reason. Colourbond roofs are lightweight and are very resilient to extreme weather. They are more thermally efficient than standard tiles and there are a number of options in the type of underlay used which will also increase the insulation factor. Another great attribute of Colorbond roofs is that once installed correctly, there should be virtually no ongoing maintenance. Metal re-roof or replacement can be slightly more expensive than tiles, however this cost can be reimbursed over time with the reduction of electricity costs and maintenance that would have otherwise been unavoidable.

Tiles

You may not want to replace your tiles with metal for a number of reasons. A Colorbond roof may not suit your style of home or it might be heritage listed and therefore that is not a possibility. Whatever the reason may be, we still have a roof replacement solution for you! Most tiles these days come with a 50-year warranty and on every replacement we will install a sarking underlay. This alone will make the roof much more thermally efficient, saving electricity costs. Whether you are after new concrete or terracotta tiles we can provide a solution. If you are not sure what type of tile you need then we would be happy to come out, take a look and provide some advice.

Our Roof Replacement Process

We provide professional roof replacement services for both Colorbond and tile roofs. While most steps are the same, Colorbond roofs include additional steps for steel battens and roof sheets, and tile roofs include specific underlay and bedding techniques. Here’s how we restore your roof:

Step 1
Safety Setup

We install perimeter safety rails or scaffolding to create a secure workspace and comply with all Worksafe requirements. All installation is completed by licensed tradesmen.

Step 2
Removal of Old Materials

Old tiles or roof sheets are removed, along with old battens. Materials are safely loaded into a skip for disposal.

Step 3
Installation of Battens

For Colorbond roofs, 40mm steel battens are installed for strength and durability. For tile roofs, new timber battens (25mm x 50mm) are installed.

Step 4
Underlay Installation

Colorbond roofs: Sisalation paper or an optional insulation blanket is installed for thermal efficiency. Tile roofs: Sarking/sisalation underlay is added to prevent condensation and improve insulation.

Step 5
Roof Cover Installation

Colorbond roofs: Roof sheets are laid according to the chosen profile (corrugated, 5-rib, or Klip-Lok) and thickness. Tile roofs: Selected cement or terracotta tiles are installed, with care to minimise exposure to weather.

Step 6
Flashings, Ridge Cappings, and Valleys

Colorbond roofs: Custom flashings, ridge cappings, valleys, and any rubber dektites are installed and sealed to prevent leaks. Tile roofs: Valleys are replaced (often with full-length Colorbond), and flexible pointing is applied to ridge cappings and gable tiles.

Step 7
Site Clean-Up

Once the roof is complete, the site is thoroughly cleaned, all debris removed, and safety rails or scaffolding dismantled a few days later.
